WHAT WE AIM

Project Description

ENDORSE is a transnational project that addresses the pressing challenge of phosphorus (P) management in southwest Europe. Phosphorus is a critical nutrient for agriculture and food security, yet Europe faces increasing scarcity while overuse and animal farming emissions leads to serious environmental impacts, including soil degradation and water contamination.

Interreg Sudoe – Co-funded by the European Union - ENDORSE

Through a Circular Economy approach, ENDORSE seeks to pilot P recovery actions and to co-create with key stakeholders a comprehensive transnational strategy for phosphorus recovery. The project is structured in three main phases:

1.

Initial Diagnosis: mapping the phosphorus cycle, evaluating economic, social, environmental, and innovation aspects, and analyzing current and future policies and regulations.

2.

Technology Validation & Fertilization Practices: we wil recover phosphorus salts from wastewaters through an innovative technology and we will valorises them as sustainable fertilizers, testing application methods in open fields and greenhouses that maximize nutrient efficiency and minimize environmental impact.

3.

Transnational Strategy & Local Action Plans: designing a collaborative strategy and concrete local action plans for the SUDOE region.

ENDORSE will carry out four pilot actions across Spain, Portugal, and France, demonstrating innovative solutions that combine urban and rural synergies. By fostering cooperation among stakeholders, supporting SMEs, and promoting knowledge exchange, the project contributes to making the SUDOE region smarter, more competitive, and more sustainable.

In addition, ENDORSE emphasizes co-creation and stakeholder engagement through its Innovation Hub, ensuring that the strategy reflects the needs and knowledge of citizens, farmers, companies, and public authorities alike
